Hi everyone. Thank you so much for joining the Engaging Together for Healthy Relationships Training. My name is Maya Ragavan and I am a pediatrician and violence prevention researcher who will be leading you through the training today. So before we get started, I wanna thank you for joining the training and for doing everything that you do to support children and families.
We know that pediatric clinicians do an incredible job supporting the health and thriving of adolescents and young people, and we know to ask about mental health and school and other aspects of adolescents lives, but there are a few resources available to talk to adolescents about forming healthy and happy romantic relationships, as well as preventing unhealthy romantic relationships or adolescent relationship abuse.
The other thing that's so great about our visits is that we spend a lot of time talking alone to the adolescent. So we have an opportunity to really dive in and learn about what they're going through and what their experiences are. But what's so fascinating is that parents and caregivers are often the ones that bring adolescents to the well-child visits, and they tend to have a smaller role, particularly for some of the older adolescents.
This is actually such a wonderful opportunity. Primary care is to, um, for parents and adolescents to be together to talk about their children's health. And so the goal of engaging together for healthy relationships is to really engage both the caregivers and the adolescents together to talk about how relationship formation and prevent dating violence.
So just a roadmap of the training. Today we're gonna start by talking about adolescent relationship abuse. Then we're gonna share a little bit more about how engaging together for healthy relationships or ETHR was developed. Next, we're going to introduce you to how to use ETHR during well trial visits.
And finally, we're gonna discuss next steps for the training after you watch these videos.
We have created a podcast and 7-taps which provide an overview of ETHR. These can be used anytime throughout the training, although we recommend you listen to the podcast first and use the 7-taps at the end of the training and prior to a visit with a family who is participating in this study.
